Gergeti Trinity Church clings to a mountainside 2,170 metres high, its white church and red-roofed monastery glowing against the granite peaks. The village (also called Stepantsminda) sits in a glacial valley; Dariel Pass Gorge cuts through mountains toward Russia. The scenery ranks among the Caucasus's most dramatic.
